Fred Wallace Slaughter (born in 1973) is an American lawyer. He is currently a United States district judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Before this, he was a judge on the California Superior Court in Orange County. He served there from 2014 to 2022.

Fred Slaughter's Early Life and Education
Fred Slaughter studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996. Later, he received his law degree, called a Juris Doctor, from the UCLA School of Law in 1999.
His Family
Fred Slaughter's father, also named Fred Slaughter, was a basketball player for the UCLA Bruins. He was also one of the first African Americans to work as a sports agent. Fred's mother, Kay, worked as a nurse. He has one sister named Hilary.
Fred Slaughter's Career Path
Slaughter started his legal career as a law clerk in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. A law clerk helps lawyers and judges with research and paperwork. From 2000 to 2002, he worked as a deputy city attorney. This means he represented the city in legal matters.
Later, from 2004 to 2006, he helped coordinate a program called Project Safe Neighborhoods. This program works to reduce gun violence. After that, he became an assistant United States attorney. In this role, he worked for the U.S. government in different areas. These included the Central District of California, the District of Oregon, and the District of Arizona.
Becoming a Judge in Orange County
In 2014, Governor Jerry Brown appointed Fred Slaughter to be a judge. He became a judge for the Orange County Superior Court. He was sworn in on January 31, 2014.
Serving as a Federal Judge
On December 15, 2021, President Joe Biden chose Fred Slaughter to become a United States district judge. This is a very important role in the federal court system. His nomination was reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
After a hearing, the Senate voted to confirm his nomination. He officially received his judicial commission on April 19, 2022. This means he began his work as a federal judge on that date.
