Currently, Dr. Bertley is the President and CEO of COSI. This is a fun science museum located in Columbus, Ohio. Before joining COSI, he worked at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. There, he was a Senior Vice President for Science and Education.

His Journey in Science

Frederic Bertley studied many interesting subjects in college. He earned a first degree in 1994 from McGill University. He focused on how the body works (physiology), mathematics, and the history of science.

He then continued his studies at McGill University. In 1999, he earned his Ph.D. in immunology. This advanced degree means he became an expert in how our bodies fight diseases. Later, in 2003, he did more research at Harvard Medical School. This extra training is called a post-doctoral fellowship.

After his advanced studies, Dr. Bertley worked as a scientist. He then joined a law firm as a technology specialist for a short time. However, his passion was always in science and education.

In 2008, he became a leader at The Franklin Institute. This famous science museum in Philadelphia is known for its hands-on exhibits. He helped create new ways to teach science to people of all ages.

In late 2016, Dr. Bertley moved to Columbus, Ohio. He became the President and CEO of COSI. At COSI, he continues to inspire people to learn about science and technology. He helps make science fun and easy to understand for everyone.

  • In 2018, he received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Otterbein University. This special degree recognized his public service.
