Frederic Fenimore Forrest Jr. (born December 23, 1936 – died June 23, 2023) was an American actor. He became well-known for his acting in the movie When the Legends Die (1972). For this role, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award as a promising new actor.
Later, he received nominations for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. These nominations were for his role as Huston Dyer in the musical drama The Rose (1979). Frederic Forrest also played Jay "Chef" Hicks in Francis Ford Coppola's famous war film Apocalypse Now (1979). He worked with director Coppola on four other movies, including The Conversation (1974) and Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988). His other notable roles were in films like The Missouri Breaks (1976) and Falling Down (1993). He also appeared in TV shows such as 21 Jump Street and Lonesome Dove.
Life and Acting Career
Frederic Forrest was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on December 23, 1936. His father owned a furniture store.
Frederic started his acting journey on stage in 1966. His first movie role was in When the Legends Die in 1973. He became famous for playing characters like Chef in Apocalypse Now. He also played a neo-Nazi store owner in Falling Down. Another important role was playing the writer Dashiell Hammett in the movie Hammett (1982).
Forrest also played the Native American bandit Blue Duck in the 1989 TV miniseries Lonesome Dove. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his supporting role in The Rose.
He appeared in many other films, including Valley Girl and The Two Jakes. He also worked with horror film director Dario Argento in the movie Trauma.
On television, Frederic Forrest played Captain Richard Jenko in the first season of the TV series 21 Jump Street in 1987. He also appeared in the BBC miniseries Die Kinder in 1990. He played Sgt. McSpadden in the Civil War movie Andersonville. His final film role was in 2002, playing U.S. Army General Earle Wheeler in Path to War.
