Fredson's Jiu-Jitsu Journey
Fredson Paixão started his journey in Brazilian jiu-jitsu at a young age. He earned his black belt in 1998 from his teacher, Osvaldo Alves. This is a very high honor in jiu-jitsu, showing he had mastered the art.
World Championship Wins
Fredson has won many World Championships as a black belt. He took first place at the Mundials (World Championships) in 1998 when he was a purple belt. Later, as a black belt, he won gold medals in 2001, 2002, and 2005. He also earned a silver medal in 2004, showing he was consistently one of the best in the world.
Special Grappling Match
In May 2010, Fredson showed his grappling skills at the UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas. He competed in a special submission grappling match against Caol Uno and won. This type of match focuses on wrestling and holds to make an opponent give up, without punches or kicks.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
Fredson Paixão also became a professional mixed martial artist (MMA). MMA combines different fighting styles like striking, wrestling, and grappling. He competed in the featherweight division, which is for fighters weighing around 145 pounds.
Early Fights in WEC
Fredson made his debut in the WEC organization at WEC 40 in April 2009. His first fight was against Wagnney Fabiano, which he lost by decision.
In his next fight at WEC 42, Fredson faced Cole Province. The fight result was later changed to a "no contest." This happened because his opponent had an issue with a post-fight test.
Victories and Challenges
Fredson was set to fight Bryan Caraway in March 2010 at WEC 47, but Caraway got injured. Instead, Fredson fought Courtney Buck and won by submission in the first round. Joining the UFC
In October 2010, the WEC organization joined with the UFC. This meant many WEC fighters, including Fredson, moved to the UFC. The UFC is one of the biggest MMA organizations in the world.
