Fredson Paixão Melo (born May 13, 1979) is a talented Brazilian mixed martial artist. He is also a skilled Brazilian jiu-jitsu expert. He has competed in major fighting events. These include the UFC, WEC, and Jungle Fight. Fredson is known for fighting in the featherweight division. He is also a world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Becoming a Jiu-Jitsu Champion
Fredson Paixão started his journey in martial arts early. He earned his black belt in 1998. This was from his teacher, Osvaldo Alves.
He became a world champion many times. He won first place at the Mundials (World Championships) in 1998. At that time, he was a purple belt. Later, as a black belt, he won again in 2001, 2002, and 2005. He also won a silver medal in 2004.
In 2010, Fredson competed in a special grappling match. He defeated Caol Uno at a UFC event in Las Vegas.

Fredson Paixão has had an exciting career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He fought in several big organizations.
Fighting in the WEC
Fredson made his debut in the WEC at WEC 40. He lost his first fight there to Wagnney Fabiano.
In his next fight, he faced Cole Province at WEC 42. Fredson first lost this fight by a close decision. However, the result was later changed. It became a "no contest" because of an issue with his opponent.
Fredson was set to fight Bryan Caraway at WEC 47. But Caraway got injured. So, Fredson fought Courtney Buck instead. He won this fight in the first round. Later, Fredson did fight Bryan Caraway at WEC 50. He won that match by a split decision.
Joining the UFC
In October 2010, the WEC joined with the UFC. This meant many WEC fighters moved to the UFC. Fredson Paixão was one of them.
He was part of a special moment in UFC history. His first UFC fight was the very first featherweight fight ever in the UFC. He fought Pablo Garza at The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck Finale. Fredson lost this fight in the first round. After this, he did not fight for the UFC again.
Life Outside the Ring
Fredson Paixão has a daughter named Emma. He is also featured in the video game UFC Undisputed 3. This lets fans play as him in the game.
