Freedom is a town located in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In 2020, about 6,200 people lived here. Several smaller communities, like Freedom itself and Murphy Corner, are part of this town. Another community, Five Corners, is partly located within the town.

History of Freedom
How Freedom Got Its Name
The first non-native person to settle in the Town of Freedom was James Andrew Jackson. He was an African-American man who arrived in 1830. The people living in the town wanted to name it "Jackson" after him. However, James Jackson asked them to name it Freedom instead. He chose this name because it was where he found his freedom.
Town's Establishment
The Town of Freedom was officially created on June 5, 1852. It was formed by splitting off from the Town of Lansing. When this happened, Freedom took most of Lansing's residents. It also took its town office and all its leaders. The remaining land of Lansing was later renamed the Town of Center in April 1853.

Freedom covers a total area of 35.8 square miles (92.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The town is located north of the Fox Valley area. It is also southwest of the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
