Friedrich "Friedl" Koncilia (born 25 February 1948) is a famous former football player from Austria. He was a goalkeeper, which means his job was to stop the other team from scoring goals.

Playing for Clubs
Friedl Koncilia was born in Klagenfurt, Austria. He started his football journey at a young age.
Early Career and Success
When he was just 17, Friedl made his first appearance for his local team, Austria Klagenfurt. In 1969, he moved to play for SV Wattens.
After two seasons there, he joined FC Wacker Innsbruck. This was where he spent the longest and most successful part of his career, playing for eight years. His younger brother, Peter, who was a midfielder, also played on the same team!
Moving Abroad and Return
Later, Friedl tried playing football in another country. He moved to R.S.C. Anderlecht in Belgium. However, he only played eight games there before returning to Austria.
He finished his playing career at Austria Wien. A back injury made him retire from playing when he was 37 years old.

Friedl Koncilia also played for his country, the Austrian national team.
International Debut and World Cups
He played his first international match for Austria in September 1970. This was a friendly game against Hungary.
Friedl was chosen to play for Austria in two big tournaments: the 1978 FIFA World Cup and the 1982 FIFA World Cup. These are huge events where countries from all over the world compete!

He played a total of 84 games for Austria. This makes him one of Austria's most capped players ever. He shares this record with another famous player, Bruno Pezzey. His last game for Austria was in May 1985, during a World Cup qualification match against Cyprus.

After retiring as a player, Friedl Koncilia also spent some time as a football manager. He managed the Japanese team Gamba Osaka in 1998.
