The Friends Burying Ground is a historic cemetery located in Trenton, New Jersey. It's a peaceful place where many important people from New Jersey's past are buried. You can find this cemetery on the west side of North Montgomery Street, just north of East Hanover Street. It sits right next to the Trenton Friends Meeting House.

Early American Leaders

  • Lambert Cadwalader (1742–1823) was an important figure in early American politics. He represented New Jersey in the Continental Congress from 1784 to 1787. This was like an early government for the new United States. He also served in the United States House of Representatives from 1789 to 1791 and again from 1793 to 1795.
  • George Clymer (1739–1813) was a very significant person in American history. He had the honor of signing both the United States Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. The Declaration of Independence announced America's freedom, and the Constitution is the main set of laws for the country.
  • Mary Willing Clymer (1770–1852) was connected to important families of her time. She was the daughter of Thomas Willing and the daughter-in-law of George Clymer.

New Jersey's Representatives

  • Philemon Dickinson (1739–1809) represented New Jersey in the United States Senate. He served as a senator from 1790 to 1793, helping to shape the laws of the young nation.
  • Richard Howell (1754–1802) was the third Governor of New Jersey. He served as governor from 1793 to 1801, leading the state during an important period.
