How Frisco City Got Its Name
The area that is now Frisco City actually started as two smaller communities in the mid-1800s, called Lufkin and Snider. In 1909, it officially became a town named Jones Mill. This name came from the owner of the local grist mill, which grinds grain.
The Railroad Promise
Four years later, in 1913, the town changed its name to Roy. This was done to honor Roy Megargel, who owned the Gulf, Florida, and Alabama Railroad (GFA). The town agreed to the name change because Megargel promised to build a railroad line to the town.
However, Megargel didn't keep his promise. So, in 1919, the town went back to being called Jones Mill.
A New Railroad, A New Name
In 1925, another railroad company, the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, bought the GFA Railroad. They agreed to finish the railroad line that Megargel had promised. The new line was completed in 1928.
To show their thanks, the town officially renamed itself Frisco City. The "Frisco" part comes from the "San Francisco" in the railroad company's name.

The climate in Frisco City is known as a "Humid Subtropical Climate." This means the town has relatively high temperatures all year round. It also gets a good amount of rain spread out evenly throughout the year.
