Frits Thors' Early Career
Before joining the NTS-Journaal, Frits Thors had a long career. He was a radio presenter for the AVRO. His first time on the radio was in 1928.
Working During World War II
During World War II, Frits Thors showed great courage. He was one of the few broadcasters who refused to work for the Nazi Germany propaganda service. This service tried to spread messages to control people's thoughts.
Instead, in 1944 and 1945, he worked for Radio Herrijzend Nederland. This radio station broadcast from the southern part of the Netherlands. This area had already been freed from occupation.
After the War
After the war, from 1946 onwards, Frits Thors worked as a freelance journalist. He worked for the Canadian broadcaster CBC in Montreal from 1946 to 1948. He also worked for the Dutch Wereldomroep.
Later Life and Recognition
On September 13, 2009, Frits Thors turned 100 years old. The Dutch broadcasting network NOS visited him. They made a news report about him at his home.
In an interview, Thors was very clear-minded. He did not like a lot of attention in his later years. However, he did attend a special event in October 2012. This event was for a book honoring the most famous NTS-Journaal newscasters. Frits Thors was 104 years old at that time.
