His Formula One Adventure
Fritz Riess took part in one Formula One World Championship race. This was the 1952 German Grand Prix, held on August 3, 1952. He drove a car from the Veritas team. He finished the race in seventh place. At that time, only the top five drivers earned championship points. So, even though he finished well, he did not score any points.
Winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans
One of Fritz Riess's biggest achievements was winning the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans race. This is a very tough endurance race held in France. Drivers race for 24 hours straight. He shared the driving duties with another famous driver, Hermann Lang. They drove a Mercedes-Benz W194 car. Their team, Daimler-Benz A.G., won the race. This was a huge victory for both drivers and for Mercedes-Benz.
Riess also competed in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans. For this race, he drove an Alfa Romeo 6C 3000 CM with Karl Kling. Unfortunately, they had to stop early due to a problem with their car's transmission.
