Frostius is a small group of toads, often called Frost's Toads. These interesting creatures are part of the Bufonidae family, which includes all the "true toads." There are only two known types, or species, of Frostius toads in the world.
Discovering Frost's Toads
Frostius toads are a special kind of amphibian. Amphibians are animals like frogs, toads, and salamanders that can live both on land and in water. These specific toads are known for being quite small.
Types of Frost's Toads
Scientists give every animal a unique two-part name, called a binomial name. This helps everyone around the world know exactly which animal they are talking about. For Frostius toads, there are two recognized species:
- Frostius erythrophthalmus
- Frostius pernambucensis, which is also known as Frost's Toad.
These two species are the only members of the Frostius genus.
Where Frost's Toads Live
Frostius toads are found in South America, specifically in Brazil. They are considered endemic to Brazil, which means they naturally live only in that country and nowhere else in the world. This makes them very special and important to protect.
