Fuerte Island facts for kids
Fuerte Island (also called Isla Fuerte) is a small island made of coral in the Caribbean Sea. It is located off the northern coast of Colombia, in the Córdoba department. The island is about 11 kilometers (7 miles) away from the Colombian mainland. Fuerte Island is part of a group of islands that includes the Rosario Islands, the Archipelago of San Bernardo, and Tortuguilla. This beautiful island offers a quiet escape, with only a few places for visitors to stay.
Geography of Fuerte Island
Fuerte Island is quite small. It is about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) wide and 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) long from north to south. The island covers an area of about 3.25 square kilometers (1.25 square miles). Its highest point is only 12 meters (39 feet) above sea level. The island is surrounded by natural reefs and some scattered rocks. Many of these rocks can be seen above the water.

Fuerte Island is home to many different kinds of plants and animals. You can find trees all over the island. In the very center, tall royal palm trees stand out, reaching higher than the other plants. The island is also a great place for birdwatching.
