Discovering Funäsdalen's History
Funäsdalen is home to the Härjedalens Fjällmuseum. This museum teaches you about mountain farming and the interesting Sámi people culture. The Sámi are an Indigenous group who have lived in this area for a very long time. Funäsdalen has always been an important meeting place for them.
The museum buildings were designed by an architect named Jörgen Grönvik. Inside, you can see amazing art by sculptor Emil Näsvall (1908-1965). Right next to the museum is Fornminnesparken. This is an open-air museum where you can explore old buildings. Some of these buildings are from the 16th century, which means they are over 400 years old!
Funäsdalen Church
The beautiful Funäsdalen Church (called Funäsdalens kyrka in Swedish) was built between 1926 and 1928. It was designed by architects Curt Björklund and Martin Westerberg. The church is made of brick.
Inside, you'll find a special altarpiece. People believe it was created by a Dutch artist named Henricus Noêll in the 17th century. The church is part of the Tännäs-Ljusnedal parish, which belongs to the Diocese of Härnösand.
Weather in Funäsdalen
Funäsdalen has a cool climate, which is perfect for winter sports! It's located high up in the mountains and also in a deep valley. This means the temperature can change a lot between day and night. Even in summer, the days can be cooler than you might expect for a place so far inland.
Because it's a popular ski resort, Funäsdalen gets a good amount of snow. The cold temperatures help the snow stay around for a long time. Sometimes, the air in the valley can be colder than the air higher up. This means that even in summer, you might see some frost on the ground, especially during longer nights.
