The longnose killifish (Fundulus similis) is a small, interesting fish. It lives in the ocean, mostly near the bottom but also swims in the open water. This fish belongs to a group called Fundulus and the Fundulidae family.
About the Longnose Killifish
The longnose killifish is found only in the western Atlantic Ocean. It lives along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. You can find it from the Florida Keys all the way to Tampico in Mexico.
What Do They Look Like?
This fish can grow up to about 12 centimeters long, which is roughly the length of a pen. Its body is rounded and long. The color of the longnose killifish can be olive green or silver. It has dark stripes that go up and down its body.
You can tell the longnose killifish apart from other similar fish by a few special features. It has a long snout, which is like its nose area. It also has a dark spot on its very last vertical stripe.
