Funyuns are a popular snack that taste like onions! They are made from cornmeal and shaped like onion rings. A special mix of salt and onion gives them their yummy flavor. Frito-Lay, a company owned by PepsiCo, first introduced Funyuns in the United States in 1969. A person named George Wade Bigner invented them. If you go to Brazil, you might find them called "Cebolitos."

The Story of Funyuns

How Funyuns Got Their Name

The snack was almost called "OnYums." However, that name was already taken by another company. So, a professor and writer named Jim Albright came up with the name "Funyuns." This new name stuck, and that's what we call them today!

Funyuns on TV

When Funyuns first came out, their TV commercials used a fun song. It was a different version of a 1966 song called "I Love Onions." This helped people learn about the new snack.

Cooking with Funyuns

Over the years, people have found creative ways to use Funyuns in cooking. Some recipes suggest using crushed Funyuns as a crunchy topping. Others have even used them to coat a Thanksgiving turkey!
