Fátima Gomes Bernardes (born September 17, 1962) is a well-known Brazilian journalist and TV host. She started her career at Rede Globo in 1987. Her first role was hosting RJTV, a regional news program from Rio de Janeiro. She became widely recognized in 1989 when she hosted Jornal da Globo, a popular late-night news show.
Fátima Bernardes also hosted other famous programs like Fantástico, Jornal Hoje, and Jornal Nacional. She was the main news anchor for Jornal Nacional from 1998 to 2011. After that, she hosted the morning talk show Encontro from 2012 to 2022. She continued working with Globo until 2024.
Early Life and Career
Fátima Bernardes studied journalism at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She began her professional journey at the Brazilian newspaper O Globo in 1983. This was her first step into the world of news.
In February 1987, she joined Rede Globo, a major TV network. Within a few months, she was already presenting RJTV. This was Globo's regional news program for the state of Rio de Janeiro. Her talent quickly became clear.
Rise to National News
In May 1989, Fátima started hosting the late-night news program Jornal da Globo. She first worked alongside Eliakim Araújo. From July 1989, she co-hosted the show with William Bonner. They later married the following year.
Fátima Bernardes became one of Brazil's most recognized journalists. She was known for her clear presentation and professional style. Her work on Jornal Nacional made her a household name across the country.
