Färjestaden is a lively town in Sweden, located on the southern part of the beautiful island of Öland. It sits right by the Kalmar Strait, which is a narrow stretch of sea. In 2010, about 5,018 people called Färjestaden home.
The name Färjestaden means "The Ferry Town." This is because ferries were once the only way to travel between the island and the mainland of Sweden. Today, a long car bridge called Ölandsbron connects Öland to the mainland. Thanks to this bridge, Färjestaden has grown a lot! It is now much bigger than the nearby town of Mörbylånga.
