G. Kamalamma (1930–2012) was a talented Indian writer, teacher, and social activist. She spent most of her life teaching in schools. Kamalamma wrote over 30 books, all in the Malayalam language. Her books covered many topics, including language, literature, culture, and biographies of famous people. She won important awards from both the Sahitya Academy of India and the Sahitya Academy of Kerala for her amazing work.

Early Life and Family
Kamalamma was born in 1930 in a small village called Perumbuzha. This village is located near Kundara in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. Her father, M. K. Govindan, was a well-known Sanskrit scholar, professor, and writer. Her mother was Gowrikutty.
A Career in Teaching and Writing
After finishing her studies, Kamalamma started her career working for the Government of Kerala. She worked there for ten years, helping with social education. After that, she became a teacher, which she loved. She taught for 24 years before retiring in 1987.
While teaching, Kamalamma also started her journey as a writer. She was very interested in the Malayalam language and its literature. She also enjoyed translating famous stories from other languages into Malayalam. Kamalamma wrote many books for children and also wrote about the lives of important people.
Writing About Famous Lives
Kamalamma wrote several biographies, which are books about real people's lives. She helped young readers learn about important figures.
- Kasthuribai Gandhi – This book tells the story of Kasturba Gandhi, who was Mahatma Gandhi's wife. It was written in both Malayalam and English.
- Sarojini Naidu – This book is about the life of Sarojini Naidu, a famous Indian poet and political leader.
