A Look Back at Gables
How Gables Got Its Name
The community of Gables got its unique name from a special house! This house was home to the area's very first post office. What made it stand out? It had distinct "gables" – which are the triangular parts of a wall that support a pitched roof. Because of this landmark, the town was named Gables.
The Post Office Years
The post office in Gables was an important part of the community for a short time. It opened its doors in 1919, helping people send and receive mail. However, after ten years of service, the post office closed down in 1929.
