Gabriel Urralburu Tainta, born on November 6, 1950, is a Spanish politician. He was the President of Navarre, an important region in Spain, from 1984 to 1991. He also played a big role as the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party of Navarre.

Gabriel Urralburu: His Life and Work
His Early Life and Studies
Gabriel Urralburu was born in 1950 in a town called Ezkároz in the region of Navarre, Spain. He finished his high school studies in La Estella.
Later, he moved to Pamplona. There, he studied philosophy, literature, and theology at a special center for theological studies. He earned a degree in Theological and Moral Sciences.
Starting His Political Journey
In 1973, Gabriel Urralburu helped create the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE). This was a big step in his political career. A year later, he helped start the Socialist Federation of Navarre.
In 1975, he became the Secretary of Political Relations for the Socialist Association of Navarre. He also joined the Federal Committee of the PSOE.
In 1976, he became a priest in the Order of Missionaries of the Divine Word. In the same year, he helped write an important document for a group called Democratic Convergence. This group worked against the government at that time.
One of his first public actions was representing Navarre at a meeting in Gernika in 1977.
Serving in Government
Gabriel Urralburu was elected to the Congress of Deputies in 1977 and again in 1979. The Congress of Deputies is like a country's main parliament.
Also in 1979, he became a representative for Pamplona in the Navarre Parliament. He was re-elected to this role in 1983, 1987, and 1991. He served as a spokesperson for the Socialist group there.
In 1982, he left the Congress of Deputies to focus on the Navarre Parliament. He also worked on a special committee that discussed an agreement about Navarre's regional government with the Spanish government. In the same year, he became the Secretary General of the Socialist Party of Navarre (PSN).
In 1984, Gabriel Urralburu became the President of Navarre. He took office on May 5. He was chosen because his party had the most seats in the regional parliament.
He was re-elected to the Navarre Parliament in 1985. Then, he was appointed President of Navarre again in 1987. During his second term, he did not support Navarre joining the Basque Autonomous Community.
He served as president until 1991. At that time, the Navarrese People's Union (UPN) party, led by Juan Cruz Alli, came into power.
Life After Politics
In 1994, Gabriel Urralburu left his role as Secretary General of the PSN. This happened because there were investigations into his actions while he was in office.
After leaving politics, he lived in Pamplona and started studying law online. Later, he began working as a lawyer in Madrid.
