Gabriela Elena Španić Utrera (born December 10, 1973), known as Gabriela Spanic, is a famous actress, model, and singer from Venezuela. She is well-known for her roles in many Latin American TV shows called telenovelas. Her most famous role was playing twin sisters in La usurpadora (1998). This show became one of the most popular telenovelas around the world.

Early Life and Beginnings
Gabriela Spanic was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and grew up in Ortiz. Her father, Casimiro Spanic, was from Croatia, and her mother, Norma Utrera, was Venezuelan. Gabriela has a twin sister named Daniela Spanic, a younger sister named Patricia, and a younger brother named Antonio.
She studied Psychology at Andrés Bello Catholic University for a year. However, she decided to leave university to follow her dream of becoming an actress.
Journey to Stardom
Gabriela Spanic's acting journey began in 1992. She joined the Miss Venezuela 1992 beauty contest, representing her home state of Guárico. Even though she didn't win, the contest helped her start her acting career. Soon after, she appeared in Venezuelan telenovelas. One of her first notable roles was playing the character Linda Prado in Morena Clara.
First Main Roles
In 1994, Gabriela got her first main role in the telenovela Como Tu Ninguna. This show was very successful and aired for two years. It became one of the biggest telenovelas in Venezuela and was popular internationally too.
After playing Amaranta in Todo por tu Amor (1997), Gabriela moved to Mexico. There, she landed her most famous role in La usurpadora (1998). In this show, she played two different characters: twin sisters Paola and Paulina. La Usurpadora became a worldwide hit, shown in over 125 countries. It was also the first telenovela to achieve high ratings with American TV audiences.
Continuing Success in Telenovelas
After La Usurpadora, Gabriela Spanic continued to star in other Televisa productions. These included Por Tu Amor (1999) and La intrusa (2001).
Later, she signed with Telemundo and starred in several more popular telenovelas. Some of these were La venganza (2002), Prisionera (2004), and Tierra de pasiones (2006). In 2005, she received the Orquidea Award for her long and successful acting career. She also won the prestigious FAMAS Award for Best Actress for her role in Tierra de Pasiones.
In 2010, Gabriela worked with Televisa again, playing a villain in Soy tu Dueña. Since 2011, she has been with TV Azteca. Her work there includes Emperatriz (2011), La otra cara del alma (2012), and Siempre tuya Acapulco (2014).
Personal Life
Gabriela Spanic was married to actor Miguel de León from 1996 to 2003. She has one son, Gabriel de Jesús, who was born in 2008.
