Gabrielle Carteris is an American actress and a leader of a group called a trade union. A trade union is like a club for workers. It helps them get fair pay and good working conditions.

Gabrielle is best known for her acting role as Andrea Zuckerman in the TV show Beverly Hills, 90210.

In 2012, Gabrielle was chosen to be a top leader for SAG-AFTRA. This is a big union for over 100,000 actors and other people who work in entertainment. Most of its members are in the United States. She became the acting president of the union when the previous president, Ken Howard, passed away in 2016.

On April 9, 2016, Gabrielle was officially elected president of SAG-AFTRA. She was re-elected in 2017 and again in 2019. This means the members voted for her to continue leading the union.

Early Life

Gabrielle Carteris was born in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her mother, Marlene, was a realtor, which means she helped people buy and sell houses. Her father, Ernest J. Carteris, owned a restaurant. Gabrielle has a twin brother named James.

Her parents separated when she was very young. Gabrielle's mother moved with her children to San Francisco, California. There, her mother opened a children's clothing store.

While attending Redwood High School, Gabrielle became interested in the arts. She studied ballet and performed as a mime. A mime is a performer who tells stories using only body movements, without speaking. When she was 16, she even went on a mime tour in Europe. She later graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1983. She earned a degree in liberal arts, which is a wide range of subjects.

Acting Career

After college, Gabrielle Carteris often played teenagers in TV shows. She appeared in shows like ABC Afterschool Specials and CBS Schoolbreak Special. She also acted in the long-running soap opera Another World.

In 1990, Gabrielle got her most famous role. She was cast as Andrea Zuckerman in Beverly Hills, 90210. Andrea was a smart school newspaper editor. Gabrielle was 29 years old when she played a 15-year-old character. She even lied about her age to get the part!

Gabrielle left Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1995. She then hosted her own TV talk show called Gabrielle. This show lasted for one season.

She continued to work a lot as an actor and a voiceover artist. Voiceover artists use their voices for characters in cartoons, video games, or commercials. Gabrielle appeared in many TV movies and shows like Touched by an Angel, NYPD Blue, Criminal Minds, and NCIS. She also acted in several feature films. She even provided the voice for a smart assistant program called "Mya" for Motorola.

In 2019, Gabrielle appeared in the new BH90210 show. She played both Andrea Zuckerman and herself.

Union Leadership

Gabrielle Carteris became a leader in SAG-AFTRA in 2012. This happened after two big unions, the Screen Actors' Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), joined together.

She became the acting president of the union in March 2016. This was after the president, Ken Howard, passed away. On April 9, 2016, she was officially elected president. She was chosen by the union's national board to finish Ken Howard's term.

Gabrielle was re-elected for a third two-year term in 2020. She won against other candidates like Esai Morales and Matthew Modine. She also serves as a vice president for the California Labor Federation.

In August 2020, she announced some big changes for the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan. The union had been losing money for two years. So, they had to make cuts and raise the amount of money members needed to earn to qualify for health benefits. Gabrielle did not run for re-election in 2021. Instead, she supported Fran Drescher to become the next president.

Personal Life

While filming the first episode of Beverly Hills, 90210, Gabrielle Carteris started dating Charles Isaacs. He was a stockbroker. In 1991, Charles moved to Los Angeles to be with her. They got married on May 3, 1992. The wedding took place at a resort in Santa Barbara. Gabrielle and Charles have two daughters together.
