José "Gacho" Torres was a baseball player from Puerto Rico. He was born on July 2, 1896, and passed away on December 14, 1963. Gacho played as an outfielder in a special baseball league called the Negro leagues during the 1920s.
Gacho Torres's Baseball Journey
Gacho Torres grew up in Río Piedras, a town in Puerto Rico. In 1926, he joined a baseball team named the Newark Stars. This team was part of the Negro leagues. These leagues were professional baseball organizations where African American and Latino players could play during a time when they were not allowed in the main Major League Baseball teams.
Torres's time with the Newark Stars was very short. Records show he played in only two games. In those games, he had six chances to hit the ball but did not get any hits. After this brief period, his professional baseball career came to an end. Gacho Torres lived to be 67 years old. He died in Cayey, Puerto Rico in 1963.
