Gafsa Governorate (which is called Tunisian Arabic: ولاية ڨفصة Wilāyat Gafṣa in Arabic) is one of the twenty-four special areas in Tunisia. These areas are called governorates, and they are like big counties or provinces. Gafsa Governorate is located in the central part of Tunisia. It even shares a border with the country Algeria.

Gafsa Governorate covers a total area of 7,807 square kilometers (about 3,014 square miles). This makes it the 5th largest governorate in Tunisia. In 2014, about 337,331 people lived there. This means it was the 17th most populated governorate at that time.
