Gagnef Municipality (Gagnefs kommun) is a special area in central Sweden. It is part of Dalarna County. The main town, or "seat," is Djurås. Djurås has about 2,257 people living there. The biggest town in the municipality is Mockfjärd, with 2,365 residents. The village of Gagnef itself is a bit smaller.
In 1971, the original Gagnef area joined with another place called Floda. This created the Gagnef Municipality we know today.
Economy and Nature
The main businesses in Gagnef Municipality are small and medium-sized companies. Many of these companies work with the forest industry. This means they use wood from forests for different products.
Two important rivers meet in Gagnef. These are the Västerdal River and the Österdal River. They flow together to form the Dal River. You can even see this meeting of rivers on the municipality's coat of arms!
