Galina also won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and was a world champion in indoor competitions in 1989. She was also a record holder in the triple jump with 14.52 meters in 1989.

Galina's Early Life and Career

Galina Chistyakova was born in Izmail, which was part of the Ukrainian SSR (a region in the Soviet Union) at the time. She trained in Moscow with a sports club called Burevestnik.

Winning Medals in Long Jump

Galina became very good at the long jump. In 1985, she won a gold medal at the European Indoor Championships. The next year, she earned a silver medal at the European Championships.

Her biggest achievement came in 1988 when she won an Olympic bronze medal in Seoul. This was also the year she set her incredible world record of 7.52 meters in the long jump.

Success in Indoor Competitions

Galina continued to win many gold medals at indoor championships. In 1990, she made history by winning the first-ever triple jump event held at the European Indoor Championships.

Later that year, she had a knee operation. After this, she found it hard to get back to her top performance level.

Changes in Citizenship and Later Life

After the Soviet Union broke up, Galina became a citizen of Russia. Towards the end of her sports career, she also became a citizen of Slovakia and competed for that country.

She once held the Slovak record for the triple jump, with a jump of 14.41 meters in 1996. This record was later broken by another athlete named Dana Velďáková. Galina is married to Aleksander Beskrovnyi, who was also a triple jumper. They now live in Slovakia.
