Galina Chistyakova (born on July 26, 1962) is a famous athlete who used to compete for the Soviet Union and later for Slovakia. She is best known for holding the world record in the long jump for women. She achieved this amazing feat by jumping 7.52 meters on June 11, 1988.

Galina also won a bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics and became the World Indoor champion in 1989. She was also a former world record holder in the triple jump, with a jump of 14.52 meters in 1989.

Galina Chistyakova's Early Life and Career

Galina Chistyakova was born in Izmail, which was part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic at the time. She trained as an athlete at a sports club called Burevestnik in Moscow.

Becoming a Long Jump Champion

Galina started making a name for herself in the long jump. In 1985, she won the gold medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships. The next year, she earned a silver medal at the European Athletics Championships.

Her biggest achievement came in 1988. She won an Olympic bronze medal at the Seoul Olympics. In the same year, she set the incredible world record of 7.52 meters in the long jump. This record still stands today, showing how truly amazing her jump was!

Indoor Success and Triple Jump

Galina continued to win gold medals at Indoor Championships. In 1990, she made history by winning the first-ever triple jump event held at the European Indoor Championships. This showed her skill in more than one jumping event.

Later in 1990, Galina had a knee operation. After that, she found it hard to get back to her top form.

Life After the Soviet Union

After the Soviet Union broke up, Galina became a citizen of Russia. Towards the end of her athletic career, she received Slovak citizenship and began to represent Slovakia in competitions.

She once held the Slovak record for the triple jump with a distance of 14.41 meters, which she achieved in July 1996. This record was later broken by another athlete named Dana Velďáková. Galina is married to Aleksander Beskrovnyi, who was also a triple jumper. They now live in Slovakia.
