Gallocanta Lake: A Special Place for Birds
The Gallocanta Lake is found on a high plain, over 1,000 meters (about 3,280 feet) above sea level. This lake gets all its water from rain. It needs lots of rain in autumn and spring to stay full during the hot summer.
Why Gallocanta Lake is Important
It's super important for birds, especially for Common Cranes. These large birds stop here during their long migration journeys across Spain. When the lake has enough water, many other wetland birds also visit. Birds that live in dry, open areas, and birds of prey like eagles, can be seen along its shores.
Because of its importance for birds, the European Union has named Gallocanta Lake a Special Protection Area. This means it's a protected place to help keep its amazing wildlife safe.
