The Gamache River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the area of Saint-Valérien and then into the Le Bic part of the city of Rimouski.

This river is a tributary (which means it flows into another river) of the rivière du Bic. The Bic River then flows into the big Saint Lawrence River near the city of Rimouski.

Where the Gamache River Starts

The Gamache River begins in Saint-Valérien. It starts from small streams in farm fields and forests, located in the Notre Dame Mountains.

The very beginning of the river is:

  • About 5.9 km (3.7 mi) southeast of the Saint Lawrence River.
  • About 5.9 km (3.7 mi) northeast of the center of Saint-Valérien village.
  • About 8.6 km (5.3 mi) east of the center of Le Bic village.
  • About 3.6 km (2.2 mi) west of the Rimouski River.

How the Gamache River Flows

The Gamache River is about 14.2 km (8.8 mi) long. It flows in different directions along its path:

  • It flows southwest for 1.8 km (1.1 mi), reaching the 5th Rang Est road.
  • It continues southwest for 1.5 km (0.93 mi), passing under the Gendreau road bridge. Here, it meets water from a small lake.
  • It flows southwest for another 3.0 km (1.9 mi), collecting water from many other streams. It then reaches the Central road.
  • It keeps going southwest for 1.6 km (0.99 mi), where it meets water from Lac de la Pelle.
  • It turns north for 0.4 km (0.25 mi), meeting the Raphaël stream.
  • It flows northwest for 1.1 km (0.68 mi), collecting water from the Lafrenière watercourse. It then reaches the bridge on Chemin du 4th rang West.
  • It flows northeast for 0.2 km (0.12 mi), reaching the border of Le Bic (which is part of Rimouski).
  • It flows west for 2.9 km (1.8 mi), reaching the "Montée Joseph-D'Astous" road.
  • Finally, it flows west for 1.7 km (1.1 mi) until it joins another river.

Where the Gamache River Ends

The Gamache River ends by flowing into the Bic River. This happens in the Le Bic area of Rimouski.

This meeting point is:

  • About 1.7 km (1.1 mi) upstream from the bridge on the 3rd rang road of Bic.
  • About 4.9 km (3.0 mi) southeast of the Saint Lawrence Estuary.
