Plot Summary
Ben is a boy who really loves plumbing and reading "Plumbing Weekly" magazine. But every Friday, he has to stay at his Granny's house while his parents go to a dancing show. Ben finds these visits quite boring. Granny always serves him cabbage dishes, like cabbage soup or even cabbage chocolate! They also play a lot of Scrabble, and her TV hasn't worked in ages. Ben's parents want him to be a ballet dancer, but Ben dreams of being a plumber.
One day, Ben calls his parents from Granny's house. He asks them to take him home because he's bored. His parents say no. Granny accidentally hears Ben's conversation and feels a bit sad, thinking Ben doesn't like spending time with her.
The next morning, Granny serves Ben boiled eggs, which he doesn't like. He secretly flicks some egg onto the window. Still hungry, Ben looks for something else to eat. He finds a tin of chocolate biscuits. To his surprise, the tin feels very heavy. Ben opens it and finds lots of sparkling diamonds, rings, bracelets, and necklaces inside! He quickly puts the tin back when he hears Granny coming. Ben is totally shocked!
After this, Ben can't wait to visit his Granny again to learn more about the jewels. But when his dad calls Granny, she says she's too busy for Ben to stay over that evening. This makes Ben even more curious about his Granny's secret life!
