Garden Prairie is a small community in Boone County, Illinois, United States. It is an unincorporated place, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or village. However, it is still counted as a census-designated place (CDP) for official statistics. Garden Prairie is part of the Rockford, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

A Look Back at Garden Prairie
Garden Prairie was first known as Amesville. It was named after an early settler in the area. Later, its name changed to Garden Prairie. This new name showed how fertile and good the land was for farming. A post office opened there in 1838 when it was still Amesville. It became Garden Prairie in 1853.
For a short time, Garden Prairie was an official village. Residents voted to make it a village in 2008. But just two years later, in 2010, they voted again to dissolve the village. This means it went back to being an unincorporated community.

Garden Prairie is located in Illinois. You can find it at these coordinates: 42°15′12″N 88°43′29″W / 42.25333°N 88.72472°W. The community covers a total area of about 0.65 square miles (1.68 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit of water.
It is located roughly halfway between two other towns: Marengo and Belvidere. You can find Garden Prairie where US Highway 20 crosses Garden Prairie Road.
