Discovering Garden Valley
Garden Valley is a quiet spot today. It's not a big city or town. In fact, you'll only find one stop sign in the middle of the community. There are no businesses or public buildings there anymore. In the year 2000, about 150 people lived in Garden Valley.
A Look Back in Time
Long ago, Garden Valley was a much busier place. Before the town of Van was formed in the late 1920s, Garden Valley was an important stop. Van is about six miles west of Garden Valley. Oil was discovered in Van, which helped it grow.
In those earlier days, Garden Valley had its own post office. It was also a station for stagecoaches, which were like old-fashioned buses. Travelers could even stay at a hotel there. It was a lively hub for people passing through.
