Garland's Past: A Name Change
Garland wasn't always called Garland! When it was first settled, it had a different name: Memphis.
How Garland Got Its Name
The name changed to Garland in the 1880s. This happened when the railroad came through the area. The new name, Garland, was inspired by a popular brand of stoves at the time. So, a brand of kitchen stoves gave this little community its unique name!

Garland is found in the southeastern part of Kansas. It sits very close to the state line that separates Kansas from Missouri.
