Gary Michael Carter Jr. was born in November 1974. He is an American lawyer and politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
Currently, he serves as a state senator for the Louisiana Senate. He represents the 7th district of Louisiana. Before this, he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He represented the 102nd district, which includes the Algiers area.
Early Life and Education
Gary Carter Jr. was born in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. He went to Archbishop Shaw High School. After high school, he attended Xavier University.
He then studied law at Tulane University Law School. He earned his law degree, called a J.D., from Tulane. All of these schools are located in New Orleans.
Political Career
Gary Carter Jr. began his political career in the Louisiana House of Representatives. He became a state representative on January 11, 2016. He took over from another Democrat, Jeff Arnold. Mr. Arnold could not run for re-election.
As a state representative, Carter focused on important issues. He wanted to create more jobs for people. He also believed in investing in education. He hoped this would help reduce crime in the city.
Moving to the State Senate
In June 2021, Gary Carter Jr. was elected to the Louisiana Senate. This was a special election. He ran to take the place of his uncle, Troy Carter. His uncle had been elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
