Early Life and Start in Broadcasting
Gary Gerould was born in Midland, Michigan. He started his broadcasting career very early, at just 15 years old, working at a local radio station.
After high school, he went to Anderson University in Indiana. After graduating, he moved to Chico, California. There, he worked for KHSL Radio and later for KCRA-AM and KCRA TV as a sports reporter. Eventually, his talent led him to NBC and ESPN, where he focused on covering exciting motorsports events. In the early 1980s, he even called play-by-play for NBC's NFL football games. He also had the amazing chance to cover the 1988 Summer Olympics for the network.
The Voice of the Sacramento Kings
In 1985, the Kansas City Kings basketball team moved to Sacramento and became the Sacramento Kings. Gary Gerould was chosen to be their radio play-by-play announcer. This means he describes all the action of the game live on the radio.
