Gary Reed (born October 25, 1981) is a famous retired Canadian athlete. He was a middle-distance runner, which means he competed in races that are not too short like sprints, but not too long like marathons. His main event was the challenging 800-meter race.

Reed was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, but he represented Canada in competitions around the world. He later lived in Kamloops, British Columbia.

A Champion on the Track

Gary Reed was a very successful runner. For many years, he was the fastest 800-meter runner in Canadian history, holding the national record. He proved he was the best in his country by winning the Canadian Championship six times in a row from 2003 to 2009.

His hard work took him to the biggest stages in sports. He competed for Team Canada at two Olympic Games (in 2004 and 2008) and six World Championships.

Major Achievements

Reed's most famous moment came on September 2, 2007. At the 2007 World Championships in Athletics in Osaka, Japan, he ran a brilliant race and won the silver medal. This made him one of the top 800-meter runners in the entire world.

Another amazing performance was at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. He finished in 4th place, just missing out on a medal in a very close and exciting race.

Retirement from Athletics

In 2010, at the age of 29, Gary Reed announced he was retiring from professional running. He left the sport as a celebrated athlete, known for his skill, determination, and major achievements for Canada.
