Gaston is a town in Washington Township, Delaware County, Indiana, United States. In 2020, about 796 people lived there. Gaston is part of the Muncie metropolitan area.

History of Gaston
Gaston was first known as Snag Town. It was officially mapped out in 1855. The name Gaston was chosen in 1901. This happened when the railroad was built through the town.
Community Life and Schools
Today, Gaston has schools for all ages. These include a preschool, an elementary school, and a high school. They are all part of the Wes-Del community school district. The town also has several churches. You can find an ice cream parlor and restaurant called The Barking Cow. There is also a funeral home and some cemeteries nearby.
Gaston has its own volunteer fire department. It also has a police department. You can find a Dollar General store and other small businesses.
Local News and Media
Gaston used to have a newspaper called The Voice. It came out every other week for over 10 years. The newspaper stopped publishing in May 2016.
Students at Wes-Del Middle/High School create a weekly video. It's called WDN. This video shares school news and events. They release it on YouTube. In 2016, Wes-Del Middle/High School also started a special program. Students could work on their own projects. They even gave out awards for these projects in a fun, red carpet style event.
Notable Visits
On May 18, 2019, Vice President Mike Pence and Karen Pence visited the area. Their motorcade drove through Gaston. It passed by Wes-Del High School. Students and volunteers were gathered there for a "color run" event. Volunteer firefighters and Gaston police saluted the Vice President. He was on his way to give a speech. This speech was for the graduation ceremony at Taylor University. He also spoke at the nearby Delta High School.
Future Plans for Gaston
Gaston hopes to grow in the future. The town wants to open new businesses and attractions. They are hoping to reach a population of 2,500 people by the year 2025.
