Gastone Moschin (born June 8, 1929 – died September 4, 2017) was a talented Italian actor. He worked in theater, on television, and in many movies.
Gastone Moschin's Acting Career
Gastone Moschin was born in San Giovanni Lupatoto, a town in the Veneto region of Italy. He studied acting at a famous drama school called the Accademia Nazionale di Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico. After finishing school, he started his acting journey in the 1950s.
He first performed in important theaters in Genoa and Milan. Around the same time, he also began acting in movies and on television.
In his film career, Gastone Moschin often played interesting "character roles." These are supporting parts that are very memorable. Sometimes, he also played "leading roles," which are the main characters in a movie.
His most famous role was Rambaldo Melandri in the Amici miei film series. This was a popular comedy series that ran from 1975 to 1985. He also played Don Fanucci in Francis Ford Coppola's famous movie The Godfather Part II.
Gastone Moschin won two special awards called Nastro d'Argento Awards for Best Supporting Actor. He won in 1967 for his role in The Birds, the Bees and the Italians and again in 1986 for Amici miei – Atto III. These awards are like important prizes for actors in Italy.
Later Life and Death
Gastone Moschin was married to Marzia Ubaldi starting in 1970. They had one daughter named Emanuela Moschin.
He passed away in a hospital on September 4, 2017, at the age of 88. He died from a heart condition called cardiomyopathy.
