What is Gateway Town Center?

Gateway Town Center is a popular place for shopping and more. It covers a huge area, about 700,000 square feet. That's like having more than 12 football fields of space! It's designed for easy access, with lots of free parking all around. The mall is managed by Gateway Retail Center LLC.

A Look Back: How Gateway Started

Gateway Town Center has a long history. It first opened in 1959. Back then, it was mostly a "strip center." This means it was a row of stores, not an enclosed mall. Some of the first stores included Food Fair, G. C. Murphy, and Winn-Dixie. There was also a J.C. Penney and a store called W. T. Grant.

Growing Bigger: The Enclosed Mall

In 1967, Gateway Town Center got a big upgrade. They added an enclosed, indoor mall section. This made it even more exciting for shoppers. A new J. C. Penney store became a main attraction. Another big store was Montgomery Ward, which was later known as Zayre. This expansion helped Gateway become the large shopping destination it is today.
