The Gaussia gomez-pompae is a special type of palm tree. It is found only in Mexico, which means it is endemic to that country. This palm tree grows on steep, rocky limestone slopes. You can find it in the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Veracruz.

What Does the Gaussia Gomez-Pompae Palm Look Like?

These impressive palm trees can grow quite tall. They usually reach a height of 10 to 14 metres. Their main stems, or trunks, can be about 30 centimetres wide.

Each tree can have up to ten pinnately compound leaves. This means each leaf is made up of many smaller leaflets arranged like a feather. The fruit of this palm is orange-red in colour. Each fruit is small, measuring about 1.5 to 1.6 centimetres across.

Why is This Palm Vulnerable?

The Gaussia gomez-pompae palm is currently classified as a vulnerable plant. This means it is at risk of becoming endangered if its situation does not improve. The main threats to this palm are habitat destruction and degradation. This happens when the places where it naturally grows are damaged or disappear.
