Lavender was the longest-serving editor of All About Space magazine. This monthly science magazine was published by Future plc. She also served as the Editor in Chief for Future plc's science publications. In October 2021, she became the Content Director of Knowledge and Education. Later, in February 2022, Lavender became Content Director for Space.com and Live Science. She left these roles in January 2023 to join the European Space Agency. Gemma Lavender has also written several books about quantum physics, astronomy, and astrophysics.

Early Life and Education

Gemma Lavender was born in Chatham, Kent, England. When she was young, her family moved to Pembrokeshire, Wales. She attended Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland.

After school, she went to Cardiff University. There, she earned a Master of Physics degree in astrophysics. Astrophysics is the study of the physics of the universe. It looks at stars, galaxies, and other space objects.

Career in Science Communication

Gemma Lavender has worked as a writer for several important science organizations. These include Astronomy Now magazine, the Institute of Physics, and NASA. Her work helps explain complex science topics to a wider audience.
