General Treviño is a small town, also known as a municipality, located in northern Mexico. It's a place with a rich history and unique traditions.

General Treviño started as a ranch called "El Puntiagudo." This land was first given to Don Juan Baptista Chapa way back on January 14, 1688. Later, in 1705, Don Francisco Chapa officially founded the settlement. It became an official town, or "villa," on December 9, 1868. At that time, General Jerónimo Treviño was the Governor of the state of Nuevo León. The main reason this town was founded was for farming, or agriculture.

General Treviño is found in the northeast part of the state of Nuevo León. It's in a large flat area called the "Great Plains of North America." The town is about 188 metres (617 ft) (or 617 feet) above sea level.

When you visit General Treviño, you can try some special traditional foods!

  • The Elote tamale is a popular dish. Tamales are made of corn dough, often filled with meat or cheese, and wrapped in corn husks before being steamed.
  • "Carne seca" is another local favorite. This means "dried meat," which is a way of preserving meat.
  • "Cabrito" is also very popular. This is a dish made from young goat meat.
  • For something sweet, there's a unique candy made from "fríjol," which means bean!

General Treviño is home to about 1,800 people. The municipality includes 49 smaller areas or localities. Some of the most important ones are:

Leaders of General Treviño

Like any town, General Treviño has leaders who help run things. These leaders are called "Presidents" in Mexico. They are elected to serve the community. Over the years, many different people have served as President of General Treviño. For example, Antioco Chapa Pérez was one of the early presidents from 1939-1940, and Raquel Villareal Cadena served from 2003-2006. These leaders work to make the town a better place for everyone.
