Genki facts for kids
Genki (元亀) was a Japanese era name (年号,, nengō,, meaning 'year name') in Japan. It came after the Eiroku era and before the Tenshō era. This period lasted from April 1570 to July 1573. During these years, Emperor Ōgimachi (正親町天皇) was the ruler of Japan.
Important Events of the Genki Era
- 1570 (Genki 1, 6th month): A big fight called the Battle of Anegawa happened. In this battle, the armies of two powerful leaders, Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu, won a major {{wikt:victory|victory}}.
- 1571 (Genki 2, 9th month): Oda Nobunaga ordered the {{wikt:destruction|destruction}} of many temples on Mount Hiei. This was a very important religious site.
- 1573 (Genki 4): Oda Nobunaga forced Ashikaga Yoshiaki to leave Kyoto. Ashikaga Yoshiaki was the last shogun of the Muromachi period. A shogun was like a military ruler of Japan. His departure marked the end of an important era.
