Sir Geoffrey Fitzhervey de Montmorency (born August 23, 1876 – died February 25, 1955) was an important person who worked for the British government in places far from Britain. One of his most important jobs was being the Governor of the Punjab, a large region in British India.

Early Life and Career

Sir Geoffrey Fitzhervey de Montmorency was born in a small area called Castlemorris, near Knocktopher, in County Kilkenny, Ireland. His father was Waller de Montmorency, a clergyman from the Church of Ireland, and his mother was Mary O'Brien. He grew up and later became a key figure in the British administration.

Governor of Punjab

As the Governor of the Punjab, Sir Geoffrey was responsible for managing a very large and important region in British India. This role involved overseeing many aspects of life, including law and order, public services, and local administration. Governors like him played a big part in how the British Empire was run.

Later Years

After his time as Governor, Sir Geoffrey Fitzhervey de Montmorency lived until 1955. He is buried in the Parish of the Ascension Burial Ground in Cambridge, England.
