George Abbotts (born 1602, died 1645) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government that makes laws. He served there from 1640 until he passed away in 1645.

Early Life and Education

George Abbotts was born in Middlesex, England, in 1602. His father was Sir Maurice Abbot.

When he was 17, George started studying at Balliol College, Oxford in 1619. He earned his first degree (a Bachelor of Arts, or BA) in 1622. Later that same year, he became a fellow at Merton College, Oxford. He continued his studies and received a Master of Arts (MA) degree in 1625.

In 1627, he also studied at Cambridge University. He earned another degree, a Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.), in 1630.

Political Career

In April 1640, George Abbotts was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for the area called Guildford. This was during a time known as the Short Parliament. He supported the side known as the Parliamentarians, who were also called the Roundheads.

He was chosen again to be an MP for Guildford in November 1640. This time, it was for the Long Parliament. He continued to serve as an MP until he died. In July 1641, he asked to leave his position, but his request was not approved.
