He went to two famous places to get his education. First, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge. This is a very old and respected university. After that, he went to Gray's Inn. This was a special place where people learned to become lawyers.

A Career in Politics

George Ashby took on several important jobs in his home county of Leicestershire.

Serving as Sheriff

He was chosen to be the Sheriff of Leicestershire twice. He held this important role in 1689 and again in 1699. The Sheriff was like the chief law enforcement officer for the county back then. They made sure laws were followed and helped keep the peace.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

George Ashby also became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person chosen to represent their local area in the country's Parliament. Parliament is where new laws are discussed and made for the whole country.

He represented the area of Leicestershire in Parliament during two different periods:

  • From 1695 to 1698
  • From 1707 to 1708

Family Life and Legacy

George Ashby passed away in 1728. He was buried in a place called Hungarton, which is also in Leicestershire.

He was married to a woman named Hannah. Hannah was the daughter of Edmund Waring. George and Hannah had a large family together. They had four sons who grew up and four daughters.
