George Avis Fulcher (born January 30, 1922 – died January 25, 1984) was an important leader in the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. He served as the bishop for the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana from 1983 until his death in 1984. Before that, he was an auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Columbus from 1976 to 1983.

Early Life and Priesthood
George Fulcher was born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 30, 1922. He decided to dedicate his life to the church. On February 28, 1948, he became a priest for the Diocese of Columbus. Bishop Michael Joseph Ready ordained him.
Becoming an Auxiliary Bishop
On May 24, 1976, Pope Paul VI chose Fulcher to be an auxiliary bishop for the Diocese of Columbus. An auxiliary bishop helps the main bishop of a diocese. He was also named the Titular Bishop of Morosbisdus, which is an honorary title. Bishop Edward John Herrmann officially consecrated him as a bishop on July 18, 1976.
Leading the Diocese of Lafayette
On February 8, 1983, Pope John Paul II appointed George Fulcher as the new bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. This meant he was now the main leader for that area's Catholic churches.
Bishop Fulcher also joined a special group called the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. He worked on a committee to help put into action a letter about peace.
His Passing
Sadly, Bishop George Fulcher died on January 25, 1984. He was driving to a conference when his car crashed near Rockville, Indiana. He was 62 years old at the time of his death.
