George Bowers (born April 20, 1944 – died August 18, 2012) was a talented American film director, editor, and producer. He worked on many movies and TV shows for almost 40 years. He helped create nearly 30 feature films as an editor.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
George Bowers was born in the Bronx, New York. After finishing high school, he started his career in film editing. He learned a lot from Hugh A. Robertson, who was one of the first African-Americans to join the Motion Picture Editors Guild.
Bowers began as an assistant editor at ABC right after high school. Later, after serving in the military, he worked for Robertson's company, Byro Productions. His first time being credited as an editor for a feature film was for the TV movie ...And Beautiful II in 1970.

George Bowers worked as a film editor from 1970 until his last film in 2008. He often worked with directors like Joseph Ruben and Penny Marshall. Bowers also helped teach younger editors, like Sam Pollard. Pollard later became a well-known editor for many of director Spike Lee's films.
