George Esper was an American journalist. He was famous for reporting from other countries, especially during the Vietnam War, for a news company called the Associated Press. He was born in 1932 and passed away in 2012.

Early Life and School
George Esper was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, in 1932. His parents had moved to the U.S. from Lebanon. George was the first person in his family to go to college. He studied at West Virginia University.
His Career as a Reporter
Before joining the Associated Press, George worked as a sports writer for local newspapers. In 1958, he started working for the Associated Press, a big news organization.
George became a well-known reporter who covered news from other countries. He spent a lot of time reporting from Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked in the AP's office in Saigon (which is now called Ho Chi Minh City).
When the war was ending, many people left Saigon, but George chose to stay. He wanted to report on what happened after the war finished. He worked for the Associated Press for 42 years!
After he retired from the Associated Press in 2000, George became a professor. He taught journalism at West Virginia University, the same college he attended.
Later Life and Family
George Esper passed away on February 2, 2012, in Braintree, Massachusetts. He was 79 years old. He was buried in his hometown of Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
His nephew, Mark Esper, later became the Secretary of Defense for the United States.
