George Gordon, 15th Earl of Sutherland (born November 2, 1633 – died March 4, 1703) was an important Scottish nobleman. George Gordon was born in 1633. He was the oldest son of John Gordon, 14th Earl of Sutherland. His mother was Lady Jean Drummond. She was the daughter of James Drummond, who was the 1st Earl of Perth.

Marriage and Children

George Gordon got married on August 11, 1659. His wife was Lady Jean Wemyss. She was the daughter of David Wemyss, 2nd Earl of Wemyss. Her mother was Anna Balfour.

George and Jean had one son named John Gordon, 16th Earl of Sutherland. John later became the 16th Earl after his father. They also had a daughter named Anna. She married Robert Arbuthnott, who was the 3rd Viscount of Arbuthnott.

Public Life

George Gordon was involved in Scottish politics during his time. He was a member of the Convention of the Estates of Scotland in 1689. This was an important meeting where Scottish leaders decided on the future of their country. It was a time of big changes in Scotland's government.

Later Years and Burial

George Gordon passed away on March 4, 1703. He was buried in Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh, Scotland. Holyrood Abbey is a historic church. A beautiful and detailed monument was built for him there. This monument was created by a famous architect named James Smith. It can still be seen on the north wall of the abbey.
